An alternate headline might be “Hustler endorses hustler.”
Legendary pornographer Larry Flynt has come out in support of Hillary Clinton as the next president. The Hustler magazine founder made his enthusiastic endorsement to Bloomberg in an article published Friday.
“I’m endorsing Hillary Clinton for president!” he said.
This isn’t Flynt’s first foray into politics. In 2003, he was one of the many candidates in California’s gubernatorial recall election, finishing seventh (and second among Democrats) with over 17,000 votes. Back in the 80s, Hustler was frequently a platform for bashing President Ronald Reagan and the religious conservatives who backed him, while during the Clinton impeachment saga Flynt offered cash rewards for evidence of Republican sexual indiscretions, an offer that led to the downfall of Speaker-elect Bob Livingston. Since the 70s, Hustler has been mailed for free to every member of the U.S. Congress, whether they like it or not.
Nonetheless, some might see something curious in the fact that Flynt, who made millions by exposing female flesh, is hopping on the bandwagon for a possible first woman president. Flynt acknowledged that many on the left, including Clinton herself, might prefer he keep his endorsement under wraps, although he says he considers himself a feminist.
“People in Gloria Steinem’s world, they don’t – they think I’m the misogynist of the century,” Flynt told Bloomberg.
Flynt says his top concern is the direction of the U.S. Supreme Court.
“We’ve had a right-leaning court for half a century,” he said. ”But if Hillary gets in, chances are she’s going to have an opportunity to appoint two, maybe three justices … and we could shift the balance there.”
Flynt said that Hillary wouldn’t need help from him or his magazine to get elected.
“All she needs to do is start fighting back,” he said, referring recent attacks on Clinton from Peter Schweizer’s book “Clinton Cash.” “One of the biggest evangelists in the world put out a video accusing President Clinton of murder—[Schweizer’s book] is the same kind of smear tactic.”
Clint’s endorsement of Clinton is hot her first from the world of sleaze. Before she made her official announcement, sex workers at at the Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Nevada launched a “Hookers for Hillary” website and said they would back her for president.
