Over the weekend, Democratic presidential hopeful Robert Frances “Beto” O’Rourke unveiled his latest strategy to prevent further gun deaths in the U.S. In the wake of the horrific mass shooting in Odessa, Texas, the former congressman made it known that he would henceforth be selling t-shirts emblazoned with the message “This is f*cked up,”  explaining on CNN, “If we don’t call it out for what it is, if we’re not able to speak clearly.”

This is but the latest solution to mass shootings Beto has proposed. In mid-August, he said that as president he would implement a mandatory buyback program for so-called “assault weapons,” a euphemism that refers to guns liberals find scary.

On Sunday, he revealed exactly which guns he would require law-abiding Americans to relinquish to the federal government.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“A reporter asked Beto in Charlottesville how he’d reassure people afraid the gov’t would take their assault weapons away,” Buzzfeed’s Molly Hensley-Clancy wrote on Twitter.

“’I want to be really clear that that’s exactly what we are going to do,’ O’Rourke said. If you own an AK-47 or AR-15, ‘you’ll have to sell them to the government.’”

You read that right. If Beto were to be elected (and there’s blessedly very little chance of that happening), he would become the dictator so many liberals claim already exists in Donald Trump and order Americans to sell certain firearms to the government.

He confirmed his position on Twitter.

Former NRA spokewoman Dana Loesch had a very good question for Beto:

No doubt, he would use armed federal agents. It’s hard to escape the irony that it was with an eye toward forestalling just such an eventuality that the founders drafted the Second Amendment in the first place.

But what if gun owners refuse to comply? Conservative write David Martosko suggests a possible answer:

Pretty much. That’s generally how dictators and tyrants work.

O’Rourke could always borrow a page from former candidate Eric Swalwell’s book and threaten the use of nuclear weapons on the citizenry.

As for his willingness to openly defy the Second Amendment, imagine what he would do to the First Amendment? Or any other freedom enumerated by the Constitution? After all, this is the party that wants to do away with the Electoral College.
