Cuomo aide, Anthony Weiner engage in epic Twitter tug-of-war

Disgraced former New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner and Rich Azzopardi, spokesman for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo engaged in a childish, yet epic Twitter battle this week.

All of which raises the question – Who the hell let Anthony Weiner back on Twitter?

Regardless, poking fun at Cuomo’s recent overreaction to Snowmageddon – the blizzard that wasn’t – Weiner took to social media to predict a similar meltdown over cold weather.

For some reason, Azzopardi saw this as an opening to go on the offensive. And boy did he ever:

See, because Weiner is actually Carlos Dang– … er … never mind.

Not to be outdone, because Weiner isn’t exactly known for pushing away from his laptop when the Twitter tab is open, the Cuomo aide was hit with a “witness tampering” blast.

Cuomo and members of his administration were threatened with witness tampering and obstruction of justice charges by a federal prosecutor when they abruptly shut down an ethics commission, then orchestrated a response to the crisis.

Prior to this little Twitter tiff, Azzopardi was best known for tweeting that “no Remington jobs” would be leaving New York state due to the SAFE Act, less than one year before Remington announced it would be moving hundreds of jobs and job openings out of New York state.

To be fair, Cuomo fired the first salvo away from social media, when he defended himself by throwing Weiner into the corruption conversation.

Cuomo insisted he couldn’t be blamed for corruption operating under his nose, throwing his hands up at the suggestion. In fact, he claimed he’s no more responsible for his Democratic Speaker Sheldon Silver’s recent arrest, than President Obama was for Anthony Weiner’s discretions.

“If Anthony Weiner shows his private parts, do you blame Obama?” Cuomo told the New Yorker. “These are criminal acts of individual legislators. What would you have me do?”

Weiner’s crime was in decency and morality.  Silver’s crime was a violation of law.

Cuomo’s crime? Well, we’ll just have to “stay tuned.”
