The eight biggest Democratic gaffes of 2014 (Video)

As 2015 approaches, it is time once again to sit back and admire Democrats, not for any actual achievement during 2014 — they have none unless you count blessedly-soon-to-be-former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's kneejerk blocking of every piece of legislation to come to his desk from the Koch Brothers ... er GOP-controlled House. Rather it is time admire the party that views itself as the "more cerebral" for its demonstrably brainless gaffes. And there are some howlers. Bruce Braley Says Political Opponent Is ‘Just a Farmer’ Braley is a two-time mention on this list. One for something he said, and another for something somebody else said about him. Braley had a brilliant plan for campaigning in the state of Iowa – mocking farmers. He told a group of lawyers at a fundraiser that Senator Chuck Grassley was just “a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school.” Braley added that unlike Grassley, he was not a simple farmer and was far more worldly because he "went to law school" and "practiced law." So how helpful was Braley's "strategy" on Election Day? He lost to Republican Joni Ernst by a margin of eight percentage points, 52% to 44%. The video clip is practically dripping with condescension. Michelle Obama Forgets Who She’s Campaigning For The First Lady hit the campaign trail for the aforementioned Bruce Braley, and immediately showed how in-tune she was with the Democrat candidate by forgetting his name … seven times. Michelle Obama Part Deux Mrs. Obama introduced Senator Mark Udall as a “fifth-generation Coloradoan.” Which sounds nice on the surface, but was actually a comment which more accurately applied to Udall’s opponent, Cory Gardner. Gardner was indeed a fifth-generation Coloradoan, while Udall was born in Arizona. Alison Lundergan Grimes Refuses to Say Who She Voted for in 2008 and 2012 During a sit-down interview with the Louisville Courier-Journal editorial board, Grimes – a Democratic candidate for Senate in Kentucky, running against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell – was asked a very straightforward question – “Did you vote for President Obama in 2008 and 2012?” The president was apparently toxic in Grimes's eyes, as she ran straight for the hills when the question was posed. Grimes also mentioned her role as delegate to Hillary Clinton in 2008, but somehow forgot that she was also a delegate for President Obama in 2012. Joe Biden – He’s Not Just a White Boy Picking one Biden gaffe is like eating one chip from the bag and thinking it will satisfy you. That said, we went with this one. At an event honoring Black History Month, Biden told Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former NBA player, that he was challenging the president to a basketball game. Biden said, “I may be a white boy, but I can jump.” Alex Sink Sink, a Florida Democrat who ran for Governor in 2010, claimed that immigration reform was necessary for a very strange reason. She fretted that without Latinos being granted amnesty, “where are you going to get people to work to clean out hotel rooms or do our landscaping?” Obama Calls Latinos ‘Fruit Pickers’ Not to be outdone by Sink’s ‘Latinos clean our hotel rooms’ comment, President Obama during his speech arguing the right to use executive action to grant amnesty, said illegal immigrants “pick our fruit and make our beds.” President Obama Puts Himself on the Ballot, Crushes Democrat Hopes Perhaps less a gaffe than an incredibly unwise political calculation, President Obama killed any Democrat chances in the 2014 midterms by declaring that “every single one” of his policies was on the ballot come Election Day. Voters responded accordingly, handing Republicans an historic electoral victory – both by numbers and by the content of their candidates. From state legislators to governor races, and of course on to retaining control of the House and regaining control of the Senate, voters agreed that Obama’s polices were on the ballot – and responded by swiftly kicking Democrats out of office.
