Latest Christie scandal: Hoboken mayor says gov held Sandy money ‘hostage’

Anyone who doubts Chris Christie’s bona fides as a Republican (yo!) isn’t a Democrat. The donks, who break out in hives any time someone mentions the name Obama and the word scandal in the same sentence, can’t get enough of Bridgegate, which they seem to view as the GOP scandal of the century. (Sorry, Pres. Bush. It looks like your bungling of Katrina relief has been trumped.)

Tommy Christopher, Mediaite’s resident liberal, jumped on the bandwagon this morning just a half hour after MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki gleefully reported:

Two senior members of Gov. Chris Christie’s administration warned a New Jersey mayor earlier this year that her town would be starved of hurricane relief money unless she approved a lucrative redevelopment plan favored by the governor, according to the mayor and emails and personal notes she shared with MSNBC.

The mayor, Dawn Zimmer, hasn’t approved the project, but she did request $127 million in hurricane relief for her city of Hoboken – 80% of which was underwater after Sandy hit in October 2012. What she got was $142,000 to defray the cost of a single back-up generator plus an additional $200,000 in recovery grants.

In an exclusive interview, Zimmer broke her silence and named Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and Richard Constable, Christie’s community affairs commissioner, as the two officials who delivered messages on behalf of a governor she had long supported.

Later in the article, which runs more than 2,300 words, Kornacki notes that New Jersey Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone told UP Saturday that Zimmer’s accusations suggest an “abuse of power” by the Christie administration. Pallone added, “This is something that the U.S. attorney should be looking at, and has to be further investigated.”

If the allegations are true, there’s no question Christie should be made to answer for his actions. But the same desire for the truth should obtain for possible crimes and misdemeanors by the Obama administration, but Kornacki — who has penned half a dozen stories on Christie — has not appetite for that. In June 2012, he appeared on Hardball with Chris Matthews, where he said of Fast and Furious:

I think the origins of this one are really important to kind of keep in mind here. And that is, this is a scandal that really began on the right, to the extent it’s a scandal at all, which I don’t really think it is.

He has been equally selective in suppressing outage over the Benghazi raid, the IRS targeting of tea party groups, and any other shady act you can name that involved the Obama White House. Heckuva job, ‘nacki!
