Cheap energy and free market capitalism-produced jobs made poverty less onerous and built the middle class.
The Democratic Party is built upon a host of Big Lies including that they are the party of the “little guy” and the “working man,” and that the Republican Party is the party of “racists, bigots, Big Business and the rich.”
Yet, yesterday President Barack Obama renewed his and his party’s most pernicious attack on the standard of living of little guys, working people, the middle class and the poor: the war on affordable energy and good-paying jobs.
As is usually the case when Obama wants a friendly forum from which to dispense a pack of lies too numerous to refute in fewer pages than War and Peace, he speaks before the most malleable, wide-eyed, naive and gullible potentially eligible voters: college students. Yesterday, he chose the Georgetown Campus where Jane Crow laws had long produced suffering Sandra Fluke law students unable to force their Catholic minders to include contraception among the vital (see cancer, heart disease and AIDS) conditions and treatments covered by their private health insurance offerings.
With 30-year-old females no longer in danger of not being able to have their carnal cheesecake and eat it too (sans budgeting in Pampers, lest the BMW payments be more painful), let us focus on selected musings from the self-appointed guardian of Planet Earth, Citizen of the World who sidelines as Chief Executive, of the relatively puny, United States of America (who regularly usurps legislative power via EPA edicts when Congress dares not rubber stamp Democrat-desired attacks on the poor):
This plan begins with cutting carbon pollution by changing the way we use energy – using less dirty energy, using more clean energy, wasting less energy throughout our economy.
Six years ago, the Supreme Court ruled that greenhouse gases are pollutants covered by that same Clean Air Act. And they required the Environmental Protection Agency, the EPA, to determine whether they’re a threat to our health and welfare. In 2009, the EPA determined that they are a threat to both our health and our welfare in many different ways…
Today, about 40 percent of America’s carbon pollution comes from our power plants. But here’s the thing: Right now, there are no federal limits to the amount of carbon pollution that those plants can pump into our air. None. Zero. We limit the amount of toxic chemicals like mercury and sulfur and arsenic in our air or our water, but power plants can still dump unlimited amounts of carbon pollution into the air for free. That’s not right, that’s not safe, and it needs to stop.
So today, for the sake of our children, and the health and safety of all Americans, I’m directing the Environmental Protection Agency to put an end to the limitless dumping of carbon pollution from our power plants, and complete new pollution standards for both new and existing power plants…
[M]any power companies have already begun modernizing their plants, and creating new jobs in the process. Others have shifted to burning cleaner natural gas instead of dirtier fuel sources.
Now, I know there’s been, for example, a lot of controversy surrounding the proposal to build a pipeline, the Keystone pipeline, that would carry oil from Canadian tar sands down to refineries in the Gulf. And the State Department is going through the final stages of evaluating the proposal. But I do want to be clear: Allowing the Keystone pipeline to be built requires a finding that doing so would be in our nation’s interest. And our national interest will be served only if this project does not significantly exacerbate the problem of carbon pollution…
And that brings me to the second way that we’re going to reduce carbon pollution – by using more clean energy. Over the past four years, we’ve doubled the electricity that we generate from zero-carbon wind and solar power. And that means jobs…
Nobody has a monopoly on what is a very hard problem, but I don’t have much patience for anyone who denies that this challenge is real. We don’t have time for a meeting of the Flat Earth Society. Sticking your head in the sand might make you feel safer, but it’s not going to protect you from the coming storm. [Emphasis added]
A bank of sharks’ teeth in Columbia, South Carolina and other geological evidence establishes that the round Earth got so warm before man exhaled the first human-generated carbon “pollutant”, much less before the first Chevrolet emitted greenhouse gas, that half of the eastern seaboard of the United States was covered by the Atlantic Ocean. But it seems that Barack Hussein Obama’s head was in the sand at Occidental College and Columbia University science classes when this massive case of non-man-made-global-warming was covered, as well as during the last 15 years of global cooling.
Not sure what soil formations surrounded the head of the former Barry Sotero when the United States reduced smog and pollution in the air and water while exponentially multiplying carbon emissions from automobiles during 1970s and 80s when his Ivy League predecessors hadn’t much patience for anyone who denied the impending onset of the next Ice Age; but thank God Americans didn’t commit economic suicide based upon that generation of liberals’ excuse for attacking the prosperity-producing free market capitalism that so repels them, lest the masses deem their “best-and-brightest” Utopian plans unnecessary for Liberty-propelled pursuits of happiness.
Want to eliminate some real “dirty” energy and replace it with cleaner fuel? Henry Ford already did that, or didn’t you know why those town homes more than ten concrete steps above Manhattan’s streets are called “brownstones”? Think a city defined by 10-foot high piles of horse dung down the sides of every street that become muddy rivers during every shower and for days thereafter. Then add the smog of wood-burning stoves and read Dickensian stories of how coal, oil and finally Edison delivered the poor and everyone else from open flames.
Yes, we limit toxic chemical releases, and yes, much of what proceeds from the mouths of Obama and his fellow Democrats is toxic to a prosperous, middle class life; but just as we protect free speech, shouldn’t we also protect proven cheap energy paths to prosperity? Especially when life expectancy has increased exponentially while CO2 did the same?
The war on the building of new coal plants and deep-water oil drilling in the Gulf began with the Era of Obama in 2009-10, which were also the years when even his own Democrat majorities in both houses of Congress rejected cap-and-trade and other schemes designed to sabotage cheap energy produced in the United States. But, much like legislative rejections of Dream and Welfare-sans-work Acts, the Constitution be damned via King Obama. Let war on existing coal plants commence. West Virginia’s electoral votes are gone anyway. Heck, even tea party applications for 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status with Obama’s IRS are probably safe in the Mountain State, but I digress.
Over four years have elapsed since the Keystone XL pipeline was proposed and state and federal environmental studies commenced. F*O*U*R L*O*N*G Y*E*A*R*S to add one more pipeline to the thousands that crisscross the Lower Forty-Eight. And oh yes, thank you so much Dear Leader, for finally allowing Boeing to submit to NLRB blackmail after “only” three years to build a job-producing plant in Right-to-Work South Carolina. Of course Charlestonians can never get back those three lost years of jobs-generating income, much as Americans can never get back the last four and half-years of economic despair while Obama has waged war on entrepreneurs that “didn’t build that” and food not “bought” with food stamps.
But Mike, don’t you see, recruiting campaigns greater than Uncle-Sam-Wants-You versions after Pearl Harbor to get more of the poor on food stamps proves that Obama and the Democrats care more for the poor? Oops, I must have forgotten about all the pre-Obama Era suffering of those with jobs that had to buy food with their own money. Yet, one will search in vain for any time over the last 40+ years when Republicans have sought to cut welfare. Yes, the Democrats always propose greater increases so they can argue their warped version of “logic” that they care MORE, MORE and MORE; but when you have the media in your pocket, one can get re-elected while attacking the poor behind a wall of food stamps.
Sadly, we still must consume generic store brand peas rather than tastier Le Sueur if we want to have funds for gasoline to return to the store when the can is empty. Here’s hoping Coal wins the war!
