Tamerlan’s family, Boston cemeteries don’t want his remains

CemeteryTalk about being unwept, unhonored, and unsung. Cemeteries in Massachusetts are refusing to accept the body of Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev for burial. And they’re not alone. The dead terrorist’s family in Russia doesn’t want him, and neither does his widow.

Fox News reports:

The corpse has languished in a city morgue since April 19, when he was killed in a shootout with police, but now it is being prepared for burial somewhere in or around Boston.

But where? That is the big question. On late Thursday, his earthly remains were transferred to Dyer-Lake Funeral Home in North Attleboro, receiving a “Bronx cheer” along the way from crowds that lined the street. A second mortician, Peter Stefan, of Graham Putnam and Mahoney Funeral Parlor, has agreed to handle the funeral arrangements. But completing those arrangements, which includes finding a final resting plot, is proving problematic. To further complicate matters, Islamic law forbids cremation.

David Boyle, President, Massachusetts Cemetery Association, told Fox that graveyards typically don’t turn away the recently departed, no matter how much the deceased have been reviled by the public. Yet, Boyle conceded, “each cemetery has rules and regulations when it comes to granting burial rights.”
