Once Powerful Virginia Democrats Are Disintegrating, With National Implications

Once Powerful Virginia Democrats Are Disintegrating, With National Implications

By Geoffrey Ingersoll

Greetings, Dear Reader,

The funny thing about systemic deterioration is that it starts slow. Eventually, however, it reaches a tipping point.

ABIGAIL’S CONFLAGRATION

We’re four months into Abigail Spanberger’s tenure as governor of Virginia, and things couldn’t be worse for Democrats’ rising star.

There’s a civil war in the party apparatus. The referendum to redraw the maps from a 6:5 Dem advantage to a 10:1 Dem advantage, thus giving the party an almost certain majority in the House, seems doomed to fail judicial review. Privately, the parties involved have been sniping each other.

It’s beginning to leak into the press.

To suffer such a stunning loss as a new governor would normally be quite devastating to further ambitions, especially if the panic turns into full blown civil war. The referendum, which was arguably illegal (unconstitutional) on several fronts, went forward with Abigail’s enthusiastic (and hypocritical) endorsement. The fallout of losing would be more than just superficial. Someone needs to hold the bag, and given her repeated, strong, public endorsements of the powergrab, that someone will almost certainly be Spanberger.

With the Supreme Court striking down race-based districts in this year’s election, it’ll be like a double whammy if Virginia Dems lose in court. Tennessee has already said they’re redrawing. Louisiana sure to follow. Florida just redrew. The hope for Dems to exploit gerrymandering for power lies mostly in Virginia, and those hopes are dimming. Spanberger will be at the center of a national tragedy for the party.

And that’s not all, Dear Reader!

Two — yes, two — prosecutors are under investigation in the state.

Arlington County’s Parisa Dehghani-Tafti and Fairfax County’s Steve Descano are under House Committee and DOJ investigation for giving “sweetheart” prosecution deals to violent criminal illegal aliens. Obviously I don’t have to tell you that both of these people came with serious financial backing from Soros entities.

The results of the investigations are almost moot. As liberals say, the process is the punishment.

The information we discover through the process of disemboweling these two will almost certainly go national. They’ll also serve as a roadmap against other prosecutors. It’s another nuke for national Dems sitting in Spanberger’s front yard, and so far she’s said nothing about it.

Known for literally running away from the press (thanks Nick Minock) over questions about men in women’s bathrooms, I suspect Spanberger to be lacing those shoes back up again soon.

Her top captain in the statehouse just had her offices raided by the FBI for an investigation into corruption. Also raided was a nearby pot dispensary.

And what do you know, Dear Reader, but the woman at the center of it all is another “historic first black”!

Virginia State Sen. L. Louise Lucas is president pro tempore of the state senate, the first of her kind. She’s an ardent supporter of Spanberger, probably the single most important one. She was also one of the chief supporters of the now-likely doomed attempt to redraw Virginia’s districts.

Now she’s been raided under suspicion of a bribery scheme to benefit her marijuana business.

Historic first black woman president pro tempore to be indicted for marijuana scam! Historic trailblazer! History of color!

Key indicator Lucas is in deep doo doo: Spanberger has said nothing in her defense.

On top of it all, legislators in Loudoun County are attempting to sneak a taxpayer-funded rent program for illegals into routine legislation. Republicans there are justifiably freaking out. Dems flat-out say, “the fiscal impacts are unknown at this time.”

Have you had enough crazy yet, Dear Reader? Remember: All at once.

Besides the redistricting, Spanberger has remained relatively mum on all this. Democrat funding schemes, prosecution schemes, corruption schemes, election schemes, all disintegrating. All highly public and liable to go national. She’s at the center of a conflagration that could consume the party’s ambitions.

And while she’s considering her next move, the fire’s rising.
