New York eliminates some pointless red tape for small businesses

“New York City is cutting red tape for small businesses, with more than 50 regulatory reforms aimed at eliminating unnecessary permits, fees, and delays. Reforms include eliminating a redundant frozen dessert permit, streamlining outdoor dining approvals and barbershop licensing, expediting restaurant inspections, and temporarily waiving certain equipment registration fees.” So reports The Doomslayer.

On the other hand, New York City is making life much worse for many small landlords and some homeowners.

Some longtime New Yorkers were told to pay massive tax bills by the City recently, based on inaccurate claims about them.

New York City recently imposed a rent freeze on a million housing units, which is bankrupting some landlords, and resulting in some mortgages going unpaid. The rent freeze will result in more housing units being left vacant as landlords cannot even recover the cost of upgrading units needed to legally rent them out to new tenants. Tens of thousands of units are already vacant for this reason. Enough landlords are defaulting that it could lead to another big bank failure in the future in New York City.
