Woke college to shut down

“Hampshire College — one of the most progressive in the nation,” will “shut down,” reports The College Fix:

One of the most progressive colleges in the nation, Hampshire College, announced Tuesday it will shut down permanently, as it is out of cash and out of options.

“The College no longer has the resources to sustain full operations and meet our regulatory responsibilities,” President Jenn Chrisler stated in an announcement, adding the Board of Trustees voted to permanently close the college following the fall 2026 semester….

The private Massachusetts liberal arts college — which openly touts its embrace of progressive concepts — had grappled with low enrollment and big budget deficits for several years.

But the budget woes never stopped campus leaders from funding programs advancing LGBTQ and DEI concepts amid laying off employees and slashing departments, as The College Fix previously reported.

Hampshire College made headlines years ago when it took down the U.S. flag to promote multiculturalism. More recently it offered Florida students wanting to flee the state’s conservatism a streamlined enrollment process….

Hampshire College has … promote[d] topics such as Drag and Environmental JusticeDisrupting and Dismantling White Supremacy, and Inclusive Weightlifting.

Wokeness permeates many colleges.  A professorship application rewards applicants for being hostile to “Western scientific ways of knowing.”

Colleges have offered courses on “Queering God.” Divinity schools have proclaimed that Jesus was “queer,” and have attacked marriage, capitalism, and monogamy.

Wellesley College offers a “Queer Bible” course as part of its Jewish Studies program. It provides an “introduction to the Bible at the intersection of queer theory” and “biblical interpretation.”

Law school lecturers in London recently received a grant to hold a “queerathon” and promote “queer theory” in the law.

At Saint Mary’s University in London, a researcher is working to inject “trans theory” into the study of international relations.

Cornell University has offered the class “Queer Marxism.”

Not just college students, but also K-12 students, are being required to take classes in critical ethnic studies or critical race theory. Hispanic students in a California school district were forced to learn critical race theory. They hated it, reported Reason Magazine.

“Less than half of high school students in St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) are proficient in math or reading but” soon all of them “will be required to take a Critical Ethnic Studies (CES) course before they can graduate,” reports the Center of the American Experiment:

The graduation requirement will first apply to the class of 2025, who will take the one semester class as 10th graders in the 2022-2023 school year, according to school communication.

Course concepts will include: identity, intersectionality, race, dominant/counter narratives, racism, white supremacy, racial equity, oppression, systemic oppression, resistance and resilience, social/youth-led movements, civic engagement, hope and healing, and transformation and change.
