No, Joe Biden’s presidency is not the living embodiment of Barack Obama’s third term. His having peppered his cabinet with Obama retreads is pure coincidence. So is his having rejected the strides toward peace Donald Trump made in the Middle East in favor of attempts to revive the JCPOA with Iran.

Biden is not alone in his desire to resurrect the Obama years. His Democratic colleagues in Congress have joined him in picking up Obamaisms. Both now try to explain the disaster Biden created at the southern border by claiming it is a “mess he inherited.” Here’s Chuck Schumer on “The View” last Thursday:

Let me just say this, Joe Biden inherited a huge mess on immigration, and it’s not going to be cleaned up in a month. He’s only been in office since, you know, January 20th, about six weeks, I guess it is, but he’s different. His view of immigration is not like Donald Trump’s, who was nasty, negative, horrible to immigrants. His view is more like your father’s view and my view, which is compassionate but also at the present time competent.

“Nasty, Negative, & Horrible” sounds like the name of a Democratic law firm. But it’s also a fair description of the conditions Biden has created at the border. Even the usually Biden-friendly Daily Beast can’t escape the realities of the nightmare that now exists there:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

A Customs and Border Protection facility in Donna, Texas was at a shocking 729 percent of pandemic-era capacity in early March, according to internal records obtained by CBS News. Lawyers who interviewed children at the facility said minors have been there as long as a week in many cases, long past the legal limit of 72 hours. “Some of the boys said that conditions were so overcrowded that they had to take turns sleeping on the floor,” said Neha Desai, a lawyer who represents migrant children. Kids complained to the lawyers of being hungry and not being allowed to shower more than once every few days or even once a week. CBP has taken more children into custody at the border in February than at any point in the past 21 months. The agency has said it is “struggling” to manage the influx.

To add insult to injury, the most transparent administration since Obama refuses to allow inspectors or the media inside the cargo containers the media has jury-rigged into “housing” for the immigrant children.

While Chuck Schumer praises Biden’s “competence” and the White House continues its stubborn refusal to call the situation at the border a crisis, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has directed FEMA to aid with the surge of migrant children. FEMA’s mission’s, according to its website, “is helping people before, during and after disasters, and our guiding principles help us achieve it.”

Maybe crisis is the wrong term for describing the situation. (RELATED: Terror suspects said to be among those at border surge)
