Now he tells us!
After spending months on the campaign trail bad-mouthing the Trump administration’s efforts to harness the twenty-first-century plague, not to mention implementation of Operation Warp Speed, Joe Biden — now Pres. Joe Biden — has a message: “There’s nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months.”
What happened to his plan for turning around the nightmare? “We are inheriting a situation that could politely be said to have been neglected,” a member of his team had the unmitigated gall to say two days ago, adding, “There’s been no plan in place for the country even for 2020, never mind 2021 or 2022.”
And now we’re hearing from the Big Cheese that he’s licked?
As Time magazine wrote last Wednesday:
Less than a week before his inauguration, Biden unveiled a massive $1.9 trillion plan, proposing short-term, medium-term and long-term fixes intended to bring the current rate of infection and death under control and set the U.S. up for a sustainable recovery from both COVID-19 and the economic devastation it has wrought, in the coming year and beyond.
The proposed bill is a shaggy thing — equal part hit list and wish list, containing long-hoped-for Democratic goals like increasing child tax credits and boosting support for pre-K childcare and public transportation. [Emphasis added]
On Thursday, Biden released a video statement in which he promised a “wartime” effort to fight COVID-19:
A day later he effectively declared that the war was over. Guess who’s waving the white flag.
If this is his idea of fighting a war, God help us if he ever commits U.S. troops to a real war.
