When Joe Biden isn’t busy populating his cabinet with holdovers from the Obama era, which now comprise some 75% of his picks, he resorts to his second tried and true method: identity politics. So determined is he to hire minorities to fill these posts that he chooses people wholly lacking in experience for the job in question. His choice for Health and Human Services, whose name Biden mispronounced twice in introducing him, is Xavier Becerra, whose sole qualification for the post appears to be the ability to read a thermometer.
Equally puzzling is his most recent selection of former campaign rival Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary. Buttigieg evidently pushed a light-rail project as the mayor of South Bend, but that is several lightyears removed from the kinds of issues the USDOT spends its time on.
The Left is of course thrilled with Biden’s diversity picks. So much so, in fact, that they are willing to give him credit for breaking glass ceilings that were already broken. Consider this tweet on the Buttigieg selection by Queerty, whose Twitter bio describes it as “the LGBT news, politics, lifestyle, gossip and entertainment site.”
