NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo accuses ICE of wanting to ‘assault’ illegal aliens
Andrew Cuomo, paws up.

In an interview last Wednesday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo accused law enforcement at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of wanting to “assault” illegal aliens. Cuomo (D-N.Y.) made the charge prior to a meeting with President Trump concerning the Trusted Traveler Program.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The administration has enacted a Global Entry freeze on the state of New York after the passage of a law allowing illegals to attain a driver’s license. The so-called “Green Light Law” prevents federal agencies like ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from accessing the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles databases.

Why is it so vital to keep that information from ICE, according to Cuomo?  “They want access to the undocumenteds so they can give it to ICE,” the governor told WAMC, “and ICE can have a feeding frenzy assaulting undocumented people.”

Feeding Frenzy

Following the comments, Cuomo referenced a recent case in which an illegal alien reportedly involved in an altercation with ICE agents led to the shooting of another man close by. According to the New York Times:

An altercation broke out in front of Mr. Avendaño’s [the illegal] home, according to witnesses and officials. As the officers, from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, tried to detain him, Mr. Avendaño was shot with a stun gun. One officer then fired a gun at a second man, the son of Mr. Avendaño’s longtime girlfriend, with the bullet piercing the young man’s cheek.

What Cuomo won’t tell you is that the illegal in this case was no saint, having previously been deported in 2011 following a guilty plea to an assault charge.

He was arrested earlier in the week after being stopped for failing to signal a turn, driving without a license, and improper license plates, according to court documents viewed by the Times.

ICE issued a statement saying the use of the stun gun and firing of a weapon occurred only after the officers were “physically attacked.”

So who is assaulting whom here, Mr. Cuomo?

Cuomo Is Ocasio-Cortez Lite

Cuomo likes to fancy himself a reasonable, level-headed, progressive who is the most intelligent person in the room. He believes this because he’s surrounded by a fawning schoolgirl-level press corp in New York state that calls him out on absolutely nothing.

In the above interview, for example, WAMC host Alan Chartock asks Cuomo this loaded question about the upcoming meeting with Trump:

You’re actually going to go and sit across from the president, right? How can you do that? I mean, how can you look at that guy and talk to him. I mean, I know it sounds presumptuous of me, but you know, he’s awful.

This kid gloves treatment by the media is what allows the governor to paint ICE with the broad brush of wanting to “assault” illegals in a “feeding frenzy.” It’s what allowed Cuomo, minutes earlier, to describe federal officials as “arsonists” while Chartock nodded in agreement, “Yes, now they’re just arsonists.” It’s the kind of mindset that let the governor get away with calling the law enforcement officers of ICE “a bunch of thugs” during the 2018 debates.

It is one thing to oppose the President’s immigration policies. It’s another when you are completely unable to distinguish yourself from radicals like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has suggested ICE is an organization that “incarcerates children and sexually assaults women with impunity.”

Cuomo is nothing close to reasonable. He is a vile creature in the mold of radicals like the young congresswoman, despised by all but a handful of counties in New York that allow him to remain in power.
