Quote of the Day: How genocides begin

Quote of the Day: How genocides begin

I can’t take credit for the title quote. It also appeared in the headline of a post at Raw Story that plumbs the sheer horror gripping the Left over one of Donald Trump’s policy prescriptions in last night’s speech to Congress.

The comment by the president was one of several that disarmed the liberals in the chamber (which for some reason included a couple dozen members of the Ku Klux Klan minus their hoods). The first fake-out came in the opening words of the address:

Tonight, as we mark the conclusion of our celebration of Black History Month, we are reminded of our Nation’s path toward civil rights and the work that still remains.

But those who expected Trump to extend a shout-out to John Lewis or mention of the fifth anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death were disappointed. Instead he veered sharply to the right and soberly acknowledged the recent vandalism of Jewish cemeteries and threats against Jewish community centers. Doesn’t the president know that Jews aren’t a protected class?

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

But what really got a rise out of those Klan members — an audible groan, in fact — was his pledge of “support” for “victims of crime.” Which was followed by this:

I have ordered the Department of Homeland Security to create an office to serve American Victims. The office is called VOICE – Victims Of Immigration Crime Engagement. We are providing a voice to those who have been ignored by our media, and silenced by special interests.

The acronym is a little clumsy — the “E” is forced. But the message and its weight are crystal clear.

Trump did do a shout-out at this point, to the father of Jamiel Shaw, Jr., whose son was shot to death by an illegal immigrant. What makes Jamiel Shaw, Sr.’s loss and grief that much more palpable and outrageous is the “before and after” response from government. CNSNews notes:

“The day we buried Jazz [his son’s nickname], LAPD came to my home to tell us they found the killer. For two weeks, local politicians supported us, and every black politician in LA did too. They even put up a permanent memorial. Two weeks after that, everything changed,” Shaw said.

He said the support he once received, even from black politicians, disappeared when it was revealed that his son’s killer was an illegal alien. [Emphasis added]

Liberal politicians have no dog in this hunt either. Shaw, Sr., goes on to observe that he received a phone call from Donald Trump following the murder of his son but not so much as a nod from then-President Barack Obama.

In general, illegals rate ahead of even America’s most beleaguered group in liberals’ imagined hierarchy of victims. Hence the reactions from the media cobbled together at Raw Story, a sampling of which follows.
