If nothing else, the story out of Lexington, Ky., has one of the most memorable headlines to come along in some time.
The details, available from CBS affiliate WKYT, are as curious as the title. The victim of the attack, 61-year-old Patricia Leece, heard commotion outside the door of her home around 12:30 p.m. Monday morning. Believing the person pounding on her door and screaming was her granddaughter, Leece opened up, only to be greeted by a crazed stranger.
The intruder, 31-year-old Ashley Sies wrapped a bra around Leece’s throat and attempted to strangle her. Leece sustained bruises and scratches to her face during the assault, which lasted between 15 and 20 minutes.
The turning point in the struggle came when Leece noticed one of ceramic chickens on the floor. Explains Leece, “So I picked it up and started bashing her on the head with it.” Eventually, she rendered the assailant unconscious at which point she phoned the police.
Investigators say Sies appeared to be on drugs and thought she was being followed when she showed up on Leece’s porch early Monday morning.
“She was going door to door hoping someone would let her in. Of course it was me,” said Leece.
Sies is charged with first-degree burglary but more charges could be on the way because Leece says she will press charges.
WKYT never explains whose bra was used in the crime or how Sies happened to be carrying it in her hand when she barged into Leece’s home.
