Candidate Obama promised to curb vacations, leisure time if elected (Video)

A video recently surfaced that shows then-Senator Barrack Obama acknowledging that a president must necessarily curtail vacations and leisure time. He also noted that that requirement should extend to the president’s family as well.

“I am giving myself to you,” he said during a 2008 interview held at the John F. Kennedy Center, according to Learn Out Loud. “Uh umm, you give me this office and in turn my, fears, doubts, insecurities, foibles, need for sleep, family life, vacations, leisure is gone. I am giving my self to you.”

His remarks came during a discussion of his book, “The Audacity of Hope,” with then-New York Times columnist Bob Herbert.

President Obama and his family are now enjoying a three-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, at a time when Iraq is being overrun by the Islamic State, Israel is defending itself against another terrorist group, Hamas, and unaccompanied, undocumented immigrants are illegally flooding across our southern border.

Here’s a clip from the video of his interview.

The Daily Caller discussed the president’s penchant for vacations last month, reporting that he and his family had spent by that time in excessive of $44 million in taxpayer funds on vacation travel.

Our president vacations a lot — we’re talking $44,351,777.12 worth of “a lot,” with most expenses charged to the American taxpayer.

As of March 2014, Obama has spent more time traveling internationally than any other president, taking 31 trips since assuming office in 2009. The 119 days spent overseas have cost taxpayers millions of dollars.

As of this writing, Obama has played 186 rounds of golf, according to ObamaGolfCounter.com, enough that NewsBusters had to correct ABC News’s Dan Harris, weekend “Good Morning America” co-host. Making excuses for Obama’s love of the game, Harris claimed that “George W. Bush played his fair share of golf during the Iraq war as well.”

Bush actually gave up the game not long after the war’s outbreak.
