Video: Air-dropped aid packages lack parachutes, exploding on impact

An otherwise horrific report by the Telegraph on the hellish conditions on Mt. Sinjar, in Iraq, where hordes of Yazidis are trapped by Islamic militants, is punctuated by an element of black comedy.

Two American aid flights have … made it to the mountain, where they have dropped off more than 36,000 meals and 7,000 gallons of drinking water to help the refugees, and last night two RAF C-130 transport planes were also on the way.

However, Iraqi officials said that much of the US aid had been “useless” because it was dropped from 15,000ft without parachutes and exploded on impact. [Emphasis added]

Call it laughing past the graveyard, but somehow you get the sense that if it were any other administration (except maybe for Jimmy Carter’s), this relief effort would be taking place without a hitch.
