Congressman who once compared GOP to terrorists likens actual terrorists to American revolutionaries

As noted by cartoonist A. F. Branco, Barack Obama’s decision to negotiate with terrorists during the Bergdahl swap has some defenders. Another defender somewhat closer to home is Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), who not only came out in support of the president’s “foreign policy” initiative but took a giant step further into the Bizarro World by equating the Taliban to colonial soldiers in the American Revolution.

Via Fox News:

Nadler … made the comparison during a House briefing late Monday with administration officials on the trade of Taliban members for American Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

Nadler apparently made the point that the Taliban, as non-state actors, have a status similar to that of American soldiers who fought the British during the Revolutionary War.

This comparison, Fox News is told, was met with a lot of groaning by other lawmakers.

Nadler has to issue a statement of clarification on his comparison.  The similarity Nadler sees between American Revolutionaries and the Taliban were that neither party wore uniforms. Or something.

What makes the comparison even stranger is that Nadler has made similar observations before. From the Daily Caller (h/t Weasel Zippers), in January 2013:

New York Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler called for Congress to abolish the debt ceiling, comparing congressional Republicans to “suicide” bombers for supporting spending cuts which exceed any increase in the debt limit.

“Paul Krugman used the example on TV the other day — said it’s like somebody wearing a suicide bomb vest walking into a crowded place saying, ‘I’ll blow up the place if you don’t give me what I want.’ That’s exactly what it is,” said Nadler, the Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution on Wednesday at the Capitol.

“I use the analogy in speeches saying that it’s like a 1930s movie: ‘Nice economy you’ve got over there, pity if it should have to blow up if you don’t pay me off.’ and that’s what’s going on here.”

So, in Nadler’s world, Republicans equate to suicide bombers, while an organization known for suicide bombings equates to American patriots.
