The looting aspect of race riots, whether the venue is Los Angeles, Ferguson, or most recently Baltimore, has never made a whole lot of sense. The message from the community seems almost to be, “We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it any more … but first a ‘free’ big-screen TV.”
According to a report today from Fox News Insider, reporter Peter Doocy and his crew were on their way to the site one of the many clean-ups that responsible citizens are undertaking in the areas ravaged by last night’s mayhem when they spied a group of teens brazenly “lifting up the gates of the store, breaking the storefront glass, and rushing inside.”

How this is anything other than pure greed and opportunism at its atavistic worst needs to be explained. Perhaps the saddest commentary of all is that the stores these “misdirected youths” (to borrow the term Baltimore City Council President Jack Young apologetically substituted a day after calling them “thugs”) are pillaging are owned and operated for the most part by their fellow blacks. So much for black lives mattering.
