Michelle Obama wants textbooks to swap apples for cupcakes: Been there, done that

Let’s Eat!!

The idea — to replace cupcakes with oranges in math problems — is not a bad one. It’s not a demonstrably good one either, since the correlation between food references in arithmetic problems and dietary behavior has never been empirically established.

Whether the idea is good, bad, or indifferent, it is certainly far from novel. The decision by educational publishers to replace junk foods with “healthful” alternatives dates back at least four decades.

Man kidnapped off NYC street, held in captivity for one month

Queens street where man was kidnappedIt is a crime that, were it not for the recent sensational story of three women held in captivity in a Cleveland home for 12 years, would be hard to fathom in terms of its duration and the degree of abuse suffered by the victim. The one common thread running through both stories is that they are over, the victims returned to their families, the perpetrators in custody.

University holds workshop on sculpting genitals from Play-doh

Play-doh sex organ eventIf there is anything positive that can be said about a workshop held at the University of Central Florida last month it is that you cannot contract gonorrhea by touching sex organs made out of Play-doh.

To hear liberals in the media express shock, however belatedly, at how “gruesome” and “grisly” were the murders of newborns by “Doctor” Kermit Gosnell following botched, third-trimester abortions, one would think that your average run of the mill abortion more resembled the merciful deaths of convicted murderers by lethal injection, if not a manicure.
