From the mouths of babes. A hand-written letter addressed to the first lady and signed by a child named Peter, who also identifies himself as “a concerned 8-year-old citizen,” was inspired by Michelle Obama’s war on (among other things) ketchup.

But as long as he was writing, Peter decided to get a few other details off his chest. The president’s speeches, for example. “I also think your husband needs to work on his speeches,” he admonished Mrs. Obama.

Peter’s father, who found the letter on his son’s desk, sent it in to the Weekly Standard. It is reproduced below in its entirety and followed by an “as-is” transcript. Granted the spelling and grammar need improvement, but the same can be said of the letter’s intended recipient, whose senior thesis at Princeton includes a number of grammatical infelicities, including the following on page ii:

Michelle Obama

Without further commentary, here is Peter’s letter:

Dear Michelle Obama,

I am eight years old. I love studying the history of the U.S.A. I have enjoyed learning about the great choices the U.S.A. has made… And then their was your husbands election. I think you should rethink your idea that takes us to one ketchup packet per meal. I feel that it is taking away our patritism toward America. I also think you should stop doing nothing and go send some troops to the Middle East. I also think your husband needs to work on his speeches. He also disipionted millions of Americans by not bombing Syria. If you do not know every day thousands of peoples homes are destroyed by the ISIS in the Middle East. You should also get the UN to send troops to Ukrain. Also may I ask you, is the White House comfrtable?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Signed,

A concerned 8 year old citizen.

Peter
