The life of Edward M. Kennedy was celebrated today with the opening of an institute dedicated to all his great works as “liberal lion of the Senate.” Both the president and vice president were on hand to pay tribute to Kennedy, which they did with all the grace of an elephant in a china shop.
First, Obama spoke, recalling that the Massachusetts senator “bridged” partisan divide. Biden completed the one-two punch by extolling Kennedy as an “an anchor for many of us in our personal lives.”
As Weasel Zippers notes, the White House speechwriters would be advised to google the term “Chappaquiddick” the next time they are called upon to memorialize the life and times of Ted Kennedy.
