Democratic senator dismisses Hillary email investigation as ‘bizarre fetish’

Apparently, bizarre, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. And “bizarre” is how Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse characterized the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email account while secretary of state.

“She used the wrong email account — duh-dah! It’s ridiculous,” Whitehouse told the Washington Post. “I’m not indulging this bizarre fetish.”

After waiting more than a week to respond to the story, Clinton tried to take a lighthearted approach in what many are regarding as a disastrous press conference Tuesday. She said she set up a private account on a private server out of “convenience,” and regrets the “mistake.”

Democrats were initially unsure how to respond, because the Clinton camp didn’t respond to most requests for talking points, reported The Washington Post. But Whiteouse has apparently picked up on the advice Clinton gave a political group set up to defend her — play the story off as silly.

“This is totally artificial,” he went on to say. “You guys have lost your minds on this.”

Other Democratic operatives said Clinton needs to announce her campaign for president as soon as possible, so she can change the conversation from the emails to the economy.

“Democrats are really worried about her,” Hank Sheinkopf, a strategist and former Clinton employee told the Post. “They want to be sure that she can win. They’re not used to this anxiety, because they’ve had eight years of winners.”

This report, by Rachel Stoltzfoos, was cross-posted by arrangement with the Daily Caller News Foundation.
