16-year-old girl busted on child porn charges after posting naked ‘selfies’ to Twitter

If you take and/or disseminate nude photographs of a teenager, you are engaging in child pornography. That’s true even if you are the teen in the pictures. A 16-year-old from Virginia learned this invaluable lesson this week when she was arrested and charged with child pornography after posting naked “selfies” on Twitter.

The Smoking Gun reports that a school resource officer questioned the teen, who told James City County Police she “acknowledged that she had taken and posted the pictures on Twitter and had also sent them to some male acquaintances.”

The girl, whose name was not released by cops, was charged with distributing child pornography, a felony. Her phone “was taken into custody for evidentiary purposes,” police reported.

Authorities spoke with the child’s mother who confirmed that the naked photos were of her underage daughter.

The teen has been referred to Juvenile Intake, which “offers a Sexting Education diversion program” for minors and their families.

The story comes on the heels of a report last month of a 17-year-old Canadian female who was convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography after she posted salacious photos of her boyfriend’s ex on Facebook.

Law enforcement agencies regularly issue warnings to parents that their children could face criminal charges for disseminating (or viewing) naked photos of fellow minors.
