Last week we were reminded of how border security instantly became a nationwide concern after commercial airplanes were turned into weapons of mass destruction by Islamist terrorists on September 11, 2001.
Yes, a not insignificant portion of We the People in border states and other communities overrun with illegal aliens in their jails, prisons, hospitals and schools had been begging for help from the federal government for many years. But it was the fear of terrorist and WMD-infiltration that energized the fence-first, anti-amnesty coalition within the GOP.
The reminder was the alert last week by the International Atomic Energy Agency that a truck carrying cobalt-60, used for radiation therapy for cancer patients, had been stolen in Tepojaco near Mexico City.

The Panel on FNC’s Special Report with Bret Baier discussed the matter and Juan Williams went out of his way, unprompted, to emphatically deny that the risk of such material being smuggled into the United States should not prompt Americans to make the border more secure.
That statement struck me as a liberal Democrat admission that they not only does President Barack Obama’s party favor amnesty and even fraudulent claims of political asylum for future welfare-dependent and/or low wage-job taking Democrat Party voters; but also they they aren’t even for border security whether it occurs before or after “comprehensive reform.”
Which reminds of when Bob Woodward asked President Obama in an interview for his book what was his greatest concern that kept him up at night. The Commander in Chief charged with keeping America safe said it would have to be first-response-capability AFTER a terrorist attack. Not, significantly, preventing such an attack in the first place.
At least, unlike with Obamacare, he didn’t lie and tell us we could keep our safe neighborhoods of we liked them.
Thankfully, Mexican authorities have made arrests in the case:
Six people admitted to a hospital in central Mexico for radiation testing are suspects in the theft of a truck containing potentially deadly cobalt-60, a government official said Friday.
Of the detained men, ages 16 to 38, only the 16-year-old showed signs of radiation exposure and he was in good health, a spokeswoman for Hidalgo’s Health Department said on condition of anonymity because she isn’t allowed to discuss the case.
The six were detained Thursday as part of the investigation and taken to the general hospital in Pachuca for testing.
