Teacher who brought ‘dildo’ sculpture to class suspended

Jeanne Michaud
Spare the rod (so to speak).

Her students are too old for show and tell, but that didn’t stop a veteran Florida high school teacher from bringing a carving of a wooden dildo to class. Now faces possible termination.

According to EAG News, the act is just the latest in a long line of stunts by Lyman High School teacher Jeanne Michaud, who is described as “sarcastic, condescending and profane with students.” Michaud, who is also said to be “admired by students and parents,” has taught math at the school for 30 years.

The Orlando Sentinel states that “the carving was one of several … left on the Longwood campus as a senior prank in 2009,” adding:

Michaud, 56, told a school district investigator she thought the prank was ‘humorous’ and out of ‘pure stupidity on my part’ took one and kept it stashed in a classroom closet.”

Last month, she was suspended without pay after a parent called the district to complain.

Parents who spoke with the Sentinel said that Michaud was often inappropriate with students, using “rough” language, but that they nevertheless admired her dedication. Said parent Brian Clarke, “She was completely vested in trying to get these kids … prepared for what they’re going to face in college.” Presumably, he was referring to hard work, not genitalia.

Michaud has been suspended previously for insubordination and unprofessional conduct and lost her teaching license for a year in 1991. Her personnel records indicate she has a track record of disciplinary actions for multiple offenses, including allegedly providing alcohol to minors, calling students names like “moron” and “retarded,” and routinely using off-color language in the classroom.

Her penchant for pushing the boundaries of decency is likely one reason a student ratted her out for displaying the penis sculpture.
