Just be thankful she didn’t replace “God” with “Barack Obama.”
The she in this case is Rep. Gwen Moore, a Democrat from Wisconsin. The place was the floor of the U.S. of Representatives. The time was Saturday. And the subject was debate preceding the vote (which carried) to delay Obamacare a year.
BizPacReview states in the rare late-night weekend session, with the exchanges due to begin operation on Tuesday and the possibility of a government shutdown imminent, the embattled Democrat referred to a Bible passage to underscore her objection to the proposal. The passage was Galatians 6:7:
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
But here is what Moore said:
Mr. Speaker, be not deceived. The people are not mocked. In 24, hours if we don’t send an exact bill back to the Senate, not a colon, not a semi-colon, not a paragraph, not a word different, the government will shut down.
But Moore wasn’t content just to misquote Scripture. She also engaged in a little gibberish spreading:
This whole debate is a subterfuge and a proxy for a strong desire to bring this nation to its knees, and to punish the people for electing Barack Obama president of the United States.
On that point, she may have been quoting Obama himself.
