There is no doubting freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s popularity among Democrats. Which says more about Democrats than it does about her.
Some are even encouraging her to run against Chuck Schumer or Kirsten Gillibrand in 2020, though Ocasio-Cortez has nixed the idea. That’s probably smart. According to a recent Quinnipiac University poll, Schumer enjoys a robust 52% approval rating. Gillibrand isn’t far behind at 46%, while Ocasio-Cortez is a distant third with an unremarkable 34% approval.
She doesn’t fare much better when ranked against the other 80 New York State representatives in the House. According to GovTrack, Ocasio-Cortez got bills out of committee the least often. Furthermore, she introduced the second fewest bills and introduced zero that became law.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Maybe recognizing that despite her fan base, she may have her hands full getting re-elected, Ocasio-Cortez posted a video on Instagram that may well be a job audition. Have a look:
AOC just wrapped up her Instagram live where she ranted about how elected officials aren’t doing enough all while she was… making a margarita. pic.twitter.com/Wf0fEqQi7B
