Noncitizen Gets Arrested After Voting In 2024 Presidential Election

The Trump administration arrested a non-citizen in September who voted in the 2024 presidential election.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officers arrested Mariana Alexandra Dewey, a citizen of Peru, on Sept. 1 for illegally misrepresenting herself as a legal U.S. citizen while voting in the 2024 general election in Kansas.

Dewey has been charged with one count of false claim of citizenship, one count of false claim of United States citizenship in order to vote, one count of fraudulent election conduct, and one count of voting by an alien in a federal election.

The Caller obtained photos of Dewey’s arrest.

“The Department of Justice remains committed to protecting election integrity and is actively investigating and prosecuting these cases,” U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser said in a statement obtained by the Caller.

“With another election looming, the Department’s effort serves as a stark reminder to individuals who are not legally authorized to vote not to engage in this conduct. Should individuals be determined by a court of law to have illegally claimed U.S. citizenship and voted or attempted to vote in federal elections, they will face serious criminal consequences,” he added.

Dewey was contacted by an investigator in April after she had moved addresses and had initially told the officer she was a U.S. citizen, the Caller learned.

She later clarified she was actually not an American citizen, but was a lawful permanent resident, according to information shared with the Caller. She also allegedly confirmed on the call with investigators that she voted in the 2024 General Election. Authorities also obtained a provisional pollbook at the Hope Church polling location and submitted a Kansas Voter Registration Application, the Caller learned. Both allegedly included statements from Dewey confirming she was a U.S. citizen.

“Despite extreme Democrats and the media claiming it never happens, the evidence of non-citizens registering and voting in our elections continues to pile up,” Lauren Bis, White House Spokeswoman, told the Caller.

“Any non-citizens registering to vote in our elections continues to pile up. Any non-citizens found registering and voting in our elections will be arrested and held accountable. Only Americans should be electing American leaders,” she added.

The administration has made numerous arrests for similar charges across the country. In July, federal authorities arrested and charged an illegal alien in New Jersey for voting in a federal election, the Caller learned first. While a number of academic studies have found that such cases are uncommon, others have shown that illegal votes can still make an impact in local and some state-level elections.

For months, President Donald Trump has pushed Congressional Republicans to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act, which would require proof of American citizenship to register to vote and photo identification to vote in federal elections. Speaker Mike Johnson told Fox News on Sunday that House Republicans could put the SAVE America Act into a reconciliation bill.

“This time we’re going to try to put it on a reconciliation bill, and the reason that’s so important, Maria [Bartiromo], as you know, is it prevents the necessity of 60 votes in the Senate,” Johnson said. “The Democrats want no part of this, and remember, this is very basic stuff.”

“We’re just going to make sure you have to have proof of citizenship to register to vote and then show an ID when you turn out at the ballot box,” he added. “These are 90-10 public opinion issues, and more than 70 percent of Democrats want to do it, but not the Democrats in the House and Senate, and so we’ve got to go around them.”
