World’s largest spaceport coming to Louisiana

SpaceX will build the world’s largest spaceport in Louisiana, to support thousands of launches per year.

“Elon Musk is continuing his push into the Southern U.S. with SpaceX, his aerospace and tech conglomerate, planning a $100 billion launch facility in Louisiana.

In a joint statement, the Louisiana Economic Development office said on Tuesday that SpaceX will establish its Starbase in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, at a former Exxon property to, ‘support thousands of launches annually.’

Once built, Starbase, LA will serve as the main launch facility for Starship, SpaceX’s in-development rocket that’s the largest ever built and designed to be fully reusable.”

This is a big boost for Vermillion Parish, whose per capita income is one-quarter lower than the U.S. average.

The launch facility will likely bring around 3,000 jobs and could indirectly create 8,000 more jobs.

The state is providing economic incentives, but facilities like this will increase the local tax base for the Parish.

The cost of space cargo launches is expected to fall by over 90 percent from 2025 to 2040, according to a recent study.

Last year, a British spacecraft took close-up images of Mercury.

In 2024, an Indian mission to the sun gathered information about the sun’s outer layers, using an array of instruments to measure and collect images of those layers.
