At least 30 people were injured early Saturday morning after a car plowed into a crowd outside of a Los Angeles nightclub, officials said.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to the scene around 2:00 a.m., local time, to reports of a vehicle driving into a crowd “for reasons still under investigation,” the LAPD said in a post on X. The police department said 23 individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) said seven people were in critical condition. The LAFD added that another seven people refused transport after being assessed on the scene. In total, 124 fire personnel responded to the scene.

The driver sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital. At the time of the press update, the individual’s condition was unknown. Officials said the suspect who allegedly shot the driver fled on foot.

LAFD Capt. Adam VanGerpen set the scene in an interview with KHOU11.
“We have reports that the driver did drive on the sidewalk, there was a taco stand out there serving tacos to people who were in line,” VanGerpen said. “There’s also a valet podium there where people were valeting their vehicles.”
“The driver drove through the taco cart, drove through the valet podium and then through the crowd of people,” he continued.

VanGerpen told the Associated Press a majority of the people in line were women. He added that people inside the club rushed out to help those outside before emergency officials arrived.
Vermont Hollywood, the club where the incident took place, was holding a reggae/hip hop event from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., according to its website.
