Democrats withdrew support for legislation advancing construction on the Smithsonian’s American Women’s History Museum after Republicans added a common sense amendment.
“The Museum may not identify, present, describe, or otherwise depict any biological male as female,” the latest version of the bill states. (RELATED: College Students Identifying As Trans And Non-Binary Absolutely Craters In Just Two Years)
The House of Representatives voted 216 to 204 to reject the amended legislation Thursday. Minority Whip Katherine Clark orchestrated opposition to the bill. Clark says she is the “mother of a transgender daughter.”
Malliotakis introduced the bill February 2025. The Committee on House Administration passed Malliotakis’ legislation in March.
“[D]espite having more than 230 bipartisan cosponsors and the support of President Trump, this legislation passed out of Committee (7-4) along party lines, with the Democrats opposing it, simply because language was added via amendment by [Republican Illinois] Rep. Mary Miller to ensure the museum exhibits only biological women,” reads a March press release from Malliotakis.
New language added to the bill also directs the Museum to “be dedicated to preserving, researching, and presenting the history, achievements, and lived experiences of biological women in the United States.”
Another addition concerns “diversity of political viewpoints and authentic experiences.” The bill specifies that museum exhibits and program should strive to represent the “diversity of the political viewpoints and authentic experiences” of American women.
The Democratic Women’s Caucus announced their opposition to the amended Smithsonian Women’s History Museum Act on Monday.
“For years, we worked with Republicans on a bipartisan bill to get the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum across the finish line … But then with no warning, Republicans completely changed the bill, throwing away years of bipartisan work and broad support,” Democratic Reps. Teresa Leger Fernández of New Mexico, Hillary Scholten of Michigan, and Emilia Sykes of Ohio said in a statement.
The Democratic reps claim the amended bill gives “Trump and his allies unregulated power over what content and which women can be included in the museum, and the museum’s location.” The amended bill does not seek to exclude any specific women or group of women, so far as I can tell. It does seek to prohibit museum curators from presenting men as women to guests.
“A museum about women, fought for and supported by women, should not be controlled by one man,” the statement concludes. A museum about women should not be controlled by a man, say female Democrats, but it should include men masquerading as women. Such is the logic of the Demcoratic Women’s Caucus. Frankly, I’m not sold on the concept of a museum dedicated solely to women’s history. It seems more sensible for other Smithsonian museums to include women’s contributions where appropriate.
But Democrats’ reaction to the amended bill is almost beyond parody. “Say, you know what this women’s museum could use? More men!”
Congressional Democrats also support transgender medical procedures on kids known as “gender affirming care.” These procedures have serious consequences. 95% of young transgender people on testosterone develop pelvic floor dysfunction; most have bowel issues and sexual dysfunction. As the Telegraph reported, “Around 87 per cent…had urinary symptoms such as incontinence, frequent toilet visits and bed-wetting, while 74 per cent had bowel issues including constipation or being unable to hold stools or wind in. Some 53 per cent suffered from sexual dysfunction…Almost half had an ‘orgasm disorder’, while a quarter suffered from pain during sexual intercourse.”
Transgender treatments can lead to a lifetime of pain, discomfort, and medications. As Britain’s National Health Service explains, hormones “need to be taken for the rest of your life, even if you have gender surgery.” An FDA official who supported giving minors puberty blockers conceded that they actually increase suicidality. Indeed, the “FDA knew ‘gender affirming’ puberty blockers increase ‘suicidality’ in 2017,” reported Just the News.
Even the transgender lawyer who challenged Tennessee’s restrictions on transgender treatments for kids admitted to the Supreme Court that “completed suicide is thankfully and admittedly rare” among transgender youth, even those not given gender-affirming treatment, and that “there is no evidence…that this [transgender-affirming] treatment reduces completed suicide.” The ACLU’s Chase Strangio admitted that to the Supreme Court.
Yet doctors who did sex changes often falsely told parents that they needed to give their kids a sex change to keep them from committing suicide, even though this isn’t true. One of America’s most prominent gender doctors, “Dr. Olson-Kennedy disclosed to how she speaks with parents of gender dysphoric patients: ‘We often ask parents, “Would you rather have a dead son than a live daughter?’”
