Dr. Anthony Fauci was granted $15 million in taxpayer-funded security as a private citizen, according to a new report.
An agreement between the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) provided Fauci protection from Jan. 4, 2023 to Sept. 20, 2024, according to FOIA documents obtained by independent journalist Jordan Schachtel and Open The Books. The costs covered a chauffeur and a USMS security detail, the report notes.
SCOOP: As private citizen, Dr. Fauci received a $15 million taxpayer-funded security detail
This was an unprecedented clandestine agreement, given the use of taxpayer funds to subsidize the expenses of a retired government bureaucrat.

The USMS, which operates under the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), told the Daily Caller they “provided a protective detail for Dr. Anthony S. Fauci from January 2023 to August 2024,” a month less than indicated by Schachtel’s report.
The Caller also reached out to the HHS but has not heard back at the time of publication.
The agreement was discovered in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the agencies. The $15 million does not include expenses related to Fauci’s private security from April 2020 to December 2022, according to the report. The millions of dollars cover, in part, transportation costs, equipment for law enforcement and salaries and benefits for Fauci’s security personnel, according to the MOU.
The contract could be renewed or extended in the future, the agreement states.
The report says it’s unclear how unprecedented the arrangement is but notes it “could find no other cases of a former federal employee receiving this level of protection.”

Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), retired in December 2022.
Fauci was the highest-paid federal employee in 2019 – surpassing former President Donald Trump’s $400,000 salary – according to data obtained by Forbes.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. lost his Secret Service protection after suspending his presidential campaign, the Daily Caller News Foundation confirmed. He was initially denied protection multiple times but received security after the first assassination attempt on Trump in July.
The Secret Service also denied at least nine requests to bolster Trump’s security prior to the assassination attempt, according to a U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs report.
Former presidents are entitled to Secret Service protection for life, according to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation. (RELATED: BELLOTTI: Trump’s Admin Can Save The Dogs, Cats And Many Other Animals)
Two former national security advisers in the Trump administration received Secret Service protection after they left the White House because of potential threats by Iran, according to a report obtained by CBS News’s 60 Minutes. The total cost to taxpayers for both individuals was over $12 million, the outlet reported.
Fauci’s NIAID came under fire after the White Coat Waste Project exposed it was funding cruel tests on animals. The Biden administration was aware the agency was attempting to cover up its experiments on beagles, the Caller reported in August.
