‘This Is Ron DeSantis’ Party’: ‘Morning Joe’ Panel Says Trump ‘Lost’ America

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panel on Wednesday declared Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis the new leader of the GOP while mocking former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis beat former Republican Gov. and Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist by nearly 20 points, winning 59.4% of the vote compared to Crist’s 40%, according to The Associated Press. DeSantis also became the first gubernatorial candidate to win the solid blue Miami-Dade county since 2002.

“Hey, Donald Trump, meet Boris Johnson,” co-host Joe Scarborough mocked. “There was a coronation last night, probably as grand as King Charles III’s coronation going to be in the spring, and it was Ron DeSantis in Florida!”

“Unfortunately, Donald Trump lost the rest of America. Now, I’m not going to say this is the end of Donald Trump, but there are a lot of Republicans this morning waking up, going, ‘wait a second, Ron DeSantis is winning Miami-Dade outright and winning 20 percentage points in the state historically, well, Donald Trump is tweeting, cheering against Republicans.’” (RELATED: Jen Psaki Suggests ‘Disinformation’ To Blame For GOP Success Among Latinos)

Scarborough continued, saying DeSantis’ reelection was not a “win” for Trump.

Co-host Willie Geist chimed in and echoed Scarborough’s analysis.

“To your point, Ron DeSantis winning by almost 20 points in Florida, remaking the map. Remaking the Obama coalition. Winning, flipping by 20 points from a couple of years ago, Latino voters. It would appear this morning this is Ron DeSantis’ party and not Donald Trump’s.”

“It’s not Trump’s,” Scarborough exclaimed. “Everything Trump touches politically dies.”

Despite predictions of a red wave, Republicans underperformed nationwide, with Trump-endorsed nominees losing or trailing in swing districts. Trump endorsed more than 400 candidates throughout the midterm cycle, making his presence known in battleground states like Georgia, Arizona and Pennsylvania. Despite Trump’s high-profile endorsements, Pennsylvania elected a Democratic governor and senator, while Arizona still remains to be called. Kari Lake, the Trump-back gubernatorial candidate, trails Arizona’s Secretary of State Katie Hobbs as of Wednesday morning.
