Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker is “coonish,” claims a University of Illinois professor who is an “anti-racist” consultant.
Walker is “incompetent, subliterate and coonish,” Professor Sundiata Cha-Jua, a history and African-American studies professor, declared in a column in The News-Gazette. “Coon” is a racial slur that refers to depictions of black individuals as lazy or dumb. (The word “coon” is considered very offensive by some: A progressive judge in Washington, DC once held an employer liable for racial harassment just because a white employee handed a black employee a “coon-ass” certificate, which the white employee did not intend as a racial slur — the white employee had handed such “coon-ass” certificates to white employees he was friends with as well).
The professor’s October 23 column excoriated black Republicans as “MAGA Black White supremacists.” His use of a racial slur is ironic because Professor Sundiata Cha-Ja “provides systematic anti-racial bias education and training for police recruits attending the University of Illinois’s Police Training Institute” and “researches the racial attitudes of police and the effectiveness of anti-racist training,” according to his faculty web page.
The race for Champaign County Clerk pits a black Democrat named Aaron Ammons and a black Republican named Terence Stuber. Cha-Jua likened Stuber to slaves, because he was recruited to run against another black person.
The professor wrote:
What type of Black Republican is Stuber? He was recruited by White Republican leadership to run against Ammons, the only African American clerk in Champaign County history….And like the incompetent, subliterate and coonish Herschel Walker, Stuber reiterates “massa” Trump’s talking points….What kind of Black Republican is Stuber? His words and deeds indicate he’s a genuine MAGA Black White supremacist.
The professor in his column declared that “most” black Republicans “are truly MAGA Black White supremacists who pursue neoliberal policies.”
