If the eight years of the Obama presidency followed by the four years of a Trump presidency teach us anything, it is that there are two press corps. Technically, the reporters in each are same people, but you’d never guess that from the night-or-day nature of the questions they ask depending on the ideology of the occupant of the Oval Office. For Donald Trump, the hostility from the media was thick enough to cut with a knife whereas for Barack Obama they were all sweetness and light.
The latter now appears to be what they have planned for President-Elect Joe Biden. When the press has been granted rare access to him since the election, the questions have all been the softest of softballs: “Why do you think Trump is refusing to concede the election to you?” On the one occasion where Biden was asked a “real” question, by CBS News reporter Bo Erickson — viz., whether he would support the CDC rather than the teacher’s union on closing schools — the president-elect snapped back, “Why are you the only guy that always shouts out questions?”
Now as further evidence of a changing of the guard comes this hard-hitting piece of journalism from CBS News:
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
And now some breaking news on #SundayMorning…
President-elect @JoeBiden and his wife @DrBiden won’t just be bringing their German shepherds, Major and Champ to the White House. The Bidens tell us exclusively that soon they’ll be joined by a cat. #sundaypets pic.twitter.com/KCkNV6jNpH

It’s going to be a long four years (or however long Biden lasts).
