Throughout Donald Trump’s presidency, the Left has been obsessed with comparing him to Adolf Hitler. Never mind that Democrats’ own policies, such as imposing strict controls on gun ownership among the citizenry, is a page out of Hitler’s handbook. Danielle Allen, a political theorist at Harvard University, penned a Washington Post op-ed in early 2016, warning:
Like any number of us raised in the late 20th century, I have spent my life perplexed about exactly how Hitler could have come to power in Germany. Watching Donald Trump’s rise, I now understand. Leave aside whether a direct comparison of Trump to Hitler is accurate. That is not my point. My point rather is about how a demagogic opportunist can exploit a divided country.
The comment seemed more directed at Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, whose far-left policy prescriptions had left the country bitterly polarized, though liberals like to forget that. They also like to overlook strides Trump made in reducing black unemployment and stimulating black business and home ownership, but that’s grist for another post.
Now that Trump appears to be on his way out, it is time for liberals to figure out what to do all the Americans who Trump mesmerized. Actor Robert de Niro has warned Trump allies to “be afraid — be very afraid,” though he failed to specify why or of what. Meanwhile, David Atkins, a regional director for California Democrats, is interested in more practical solutions for dealing with Trump’s acolytes. He posted a tweet to that effect, which asks “how … you deprogram 75 million people.” (RELATED: Trump is no longer the problem. His army of followers is)
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
This is not your standard partisan policy disagreement. This is a conspiracy theory fueled belligerent death cult against reality & basic decency.
The only actual policy debates of note are happening within the dem coalition between left and center left.

Atkins continued to amplify on his original thoughts through Thursday, adding at one point that he was not advocating “re-education camps” but rather something more akin to cult deprogramming.
Suffice it to say it’s going to be a long four years.
