‘I believe you, Tara Reade, and I’m sorry … but I’m voting for Biden’

Back when the Democrats were trying to build an impeachment case against Donald Trump, Speaker Nancy Pelosi released a statement in which she proclaimed:

Our democracy is what is at stake. The president leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt, once again, the election for his own benefit. The president has engaged in abuse of power undermining our national security and jeopardizing the integrity of our elections. [Emphasis added]

The highlighted clause, as we now know, was pure fiction. Neither Trump nor his campaign ever tried to steal an election. But that would have mattered as little to Democrats then as it does now. They believed back then that the election was, as the National Review’s Rich Lowry phrased it in a headline, “too important to be left to voters.”

The impeachment of course never achieved the Dems’ goal of unseating Trump, so now they’re willing to place the 2020 election back in the hands of the people. But this time it’s the people themselves — or at least those on the Left — who fail to appreciate the awesomeness of responsibility that awaits them on Nov. 3.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

This is clear from reactions among Democrats to the accusations of sexual impropriety that have been leveled against Biden. Oh, they appreciate the gravity of the charges brought in 2018 by former aide Tara Reade. So serious are allegations of sexual assault that the Dems were willing to accept as gospel the claims made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by a woman who was hazy on the details of where and when the crime supposedly occurred and couldn’t provide a single witness to corroborate her story.

Tara Reade, in contrast, has a comparative mountain of evidence against Biden. There is his reputation for being “handsy,” and a number of people have come forward to say they recall Reade’s telling them about the assault.

But the Left’s hypocrisy has become so ingrained that some liberals, like women’s rights attorney Lisa Bloom, have confessed that even though they believe Reade is telling the truth, they intend to vote for Biden anyway:

What is Bloom’s justification for putting a sex offender in the White House? It boils down once again to the “election being too important” — in this case too important not to vote Trump out of office.
