With all the familiar slogans — “The heart wants what it wants,” “Love is love” — you’d think today’s “liberated” parents would be open to pretty nearly any relationship, right? If their little girl came home with a drug cartel leader, or a non-binary interpretive dance instructor, or an 80-year-old rodeo clown, it wouldn’t matter so long as the happy couple has feelings for each other.
So what happened when Tracy Boettcher of Texas told her parents that she had received a marriage proposal from a (gasp!) conservative? Suffice it to say it wasn’t pretty.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
In a video that has been viewed more than 800,000 times on Twitter, Boettcher attempts to recruit a surrogate father willing to give her away. That’s “give away” in the marital sense, not “disown,” as her real parents are doing. A transcript follows:
My parents hate my fiance because he’s a conservative and they’re liberal. They refuse to go to our wedding, and they gave me an ultimatum of choosing between him or them.
So, I chose myself and I chose what would make me happiest in the long run. And my mother told me I was incapable of being loved or being in a relationship because I was assaulted when I was 17. So, I chose my fiance, and I will be walking myself down the aisle in December. So, if anyone has a dad that would like to walk me down the aisle, let me know.

You can hear the pain in this lovely young woman’s voice.
Her short-sighted and petulant parents have chosen their petty political hatred over the relationship with their own daughter.
They would sooner burn bridges than bury the hatchet over political differences. News flash to the parents: That hatred will give you cold comfort in your old age, when you’re alone and longing to see your estranged grandchildren.
And all for what? To “stick it” to Orange Man Bad? As though he even knows who you are?
By the way, you’ll be pleased to know the story has a happy — or at least a less dismal — ending. According to the Washington Times, Boettcher viral TikTok video caught the attention of Donald Trump, Jr., who offered to escort her down the aisle.
