GOP Sen. Ron Johnson denied entry into Russia: Democrats silent

Granted, he’s not one of the first two Muslim females elected to Congress, but Sen. Ron Johnson is a member of the upper house and is at least entitled to the same agitá Democrats displayed when Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib were denied entry to Israel. Yet, on Monday Democrats were silent after Johnson revealed that Russia had denied his visa request to visit the country as part of a bipartisan congressional delegation.

Johnson (R-Wyo.), had requested the visa as a bridge to speaking with various Russian government officials, American businesses, and civil society organizations during his visit. “Unfortunately, Russian officials continue to play diplomatic games with this sincere effort and have denied me entrance to Russia,” said Johnson in a statement. “Regardless of this petty affront, I will continue to advocate a strong and resolute response to Russian aggression — and frank dialogue when possible,” he added.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

It is unclear if the other congressional delegates had also been denied visas into Russia. What is clear, however, is that the Democratic Party, their leaders, and the “Squad” betray selective outrage when it comes to American lawmakers being denied entry into a foreign country.

It wasn’t all that long ago – in fact, mere weeks – that Tlaib and Omar were turned away by the Jewish state over their support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. Democrats were so miffed by slight that they were seeking avenues to punish our ally, calling it the end of democracy as we know it. Fellow “Squad” member and de facto leader Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, went so far as to declare Israel to be racist, just like President Trump.

You would think the Dems’ pique would be even more amplified in the case of Russia snubbing an American lawmaker, especially so in light of the fact the party has portrayed Russia as a direct threat to every American institution for three years now. For his part, Johnson didn’t have a problem ripping Russia for the decision, even taking aim at Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said in a statement:

The path Vladimir Putin has chosen for Russia is a tragedy of historic proportions. Instead of holding free and fair elections, respecting the rule of law, and integrating Russia’s economy with Western democracies, Putin has invaded Georgia, attempted to illegally annex Crimea, conducted war in eastern Ukraine where thousands have died, and supported a barbaric regime in Syria that has used chemical weapons on its own people in a war that has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands.

Perhaps if Sen. Johnson wants access to Russia, he should get a little more cozy with them. You know, like Bill and Hillary Clinton have been over the years, with the latter opposing sanctions against the country after the former was paid $500,000 for a speech.
