Shades of his presidency, during which when Barack Obama wasn’t lying (remember “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor?” or better still his repeated claim that the storming of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was a “popular mob uprising”) he was committing embarrassing flubs.
Over the weekend, while in Brazil, he exhibited the first of these deficiencies by claiming with a straight face that anyone in the U.S. can buy machine guns, even over the Internet, because there’s almost nothing that regulates the sale of guns.
It was also during his visit to South America that Obama displayed his ignorance about the documents our founders bequeathed to us. During remarks in which he asserted that “the United States was founded on inequality,” he quoted the line “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” But according to Obama — who, remember, is a constitutional scholar — the words appear in the U.S. Constitution.
Who wants to tell him they come from the Declaration of Independence.
