Back in February, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued that illegal aliens have a right to be here in the U.S. Standing outside Congress, she told reporters, “We have to have respect for children, respect for families, respect for human rights and respect for the right of human mobility. Because it is a right. It is a right.”
By “right of human mobility,” she seemed to be suggesting that people are free to venture anywhere they like on planet Earth. I don’t know if Ocasio-Cortez has done any traveling, but attempting to enter a foreign country without a passport, visa, or other accepted form of documentation doesn’t normally end satisfactorily.
Maybe that flaw in her argument was pointed out to her because since then she has refined her spiel. Now she acknowledges that illegal aliens don’t have carte blanche when crossing our southern border. But that, she argues, is because Donald Trump has ground “all the agencies to a halt that process legal immigration,” which in turn forces “people into the shadows” and creates “undocumented populations,” whose rights are then”violated.”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

It’s news to me that Trump has shut down the agencies that process legal immigration, unless she is referring to the U.S. immigration court, which is facing a backlog of 850,000 asylum cases, but nevertheless remains open for business. As for violating the rights of “undocumented populations,” maybe Ocasio-Cortez could explain what she believes those rights to be.
