Nazi comparison: The shoe is on the wrong foot

Nazi comparison: The shoe is on the wrong foot

Everywhere I look lately, Trump is being compared to Hitler. For example, two photos were just posted on Facebook. (See the Snopes link below.) One was Hitler saying that Jews are animals; the second was Trump saying — purportedly — that Mexicans are animals. The message is that Trump is another Hitler. Of course, Trump never said that. He said that violent MS-13 gang members are animals. “The quotation attributed to President Trump,” said Snopes, “was both inaccurate and left out the full context behind his remarks, which referred to undocumented and deported migrants convicted of crimes.” The mainstream media, unfortunately, is all too willing to report Trump’s words incorrectly.

The photos on Facebook are a classic example of Trump Derangement Syndrome. A seemingly educated professional is pushing a false, vulgar argument to bolster a political view. Did the poster invent the idea? Unlikely. The meme photos merely regurgitate the propaganda retailed by the fake news media. Here are some of the obvious sources to borrow from:

  • New York Magazine: “Like Hitler, Trump is a radical, authoritarian figure.”
  • MSNBC/Joe Scarborough (via USMAGANews; video here): “You can be offended if you want, but that’s out of Hitler’s playbook.”
  • MSNBC/Chris Matthews (via Fox News): Trump’s inaugural speech was “Hitlerian.”
  • International Business Times: “The comparison between Hitler and Trump is so poignant.”
  • CNN: “Barack Obama was right” to compare the rise of Donald Trump to the rise of Adolf Hitler.
  • The Forward: “Yes, you should be comparing Trump to Hitler.”

Now that the trend has been established, let me get to the point. If we are going to compare an element of our country to Nazi Germany, it really ought to be the Deep State — the unaccountable bureaucrats who are running the show in Washington. Newt Gingrich’s definition is: “A permanent state of massive bureaucracies that do whatever they want.” The Deep State is the huge unelected bureaucracy that represents the “big” in our big government.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Your vote means nothing when the people you elect to serve in Congress are not the ones who make the rules. Under Obama, the powers of the federal government were weaponized against political opponents on the Right. This police state strategy has been executed by the Deep State and supported by a press that is owned by the Democratic Party. This, more than anything Trump has done, is uncomfortably similar to what the Soviets — and, yes, the Nazis — did.

In a totalitarian state, justice has a double standard — one for the party in power and another for the opposition. Thanks to the Deep State, the emerging double standard of justice in America looks like this: the deliberate targeting of conservative organizations by the IRS while liberal groups get a free pass; the prosecution by the Justice Department of conservative political opponents, e.g., Paul Manafort, Dinesh D’Souza, and General Michael Flynn, while “progressive” felons are let off the hook, e.g., Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Eric Holder, and Loretta Lynch; and the ongoing effort by Justice Department and FBI bureaucrats to invalidate a legitimate presidential election.

Evidence is mounting that the FBI under James Comey knowingly and willfully protected Hillary Clinton from a mountain of potential felony prosecutions, and the Mueller investigation is part of a thinly veiled attempt by the Deep State to destroy the Trump presidency. We are witnessing the rise of the Nazi-like leftist group Antifa. A leftist mob surrounded the home of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. The most frightening example of totalitarian abuse was the middle-of-the-night assault by gun-toting FBI agents against the Virginia home of Trump supporter Paul Manafort. When I heard about this, the image of Gestapo tactics immediately came to mind. If the FBI can scare Manafort and his wife out of their pajamas, they can do it to you and to me.

Let the record show that Donald Trump’s values are the opposite of fascist ones, while the Democratic Party embraces the totalitarian aim of bigger government at the expense of individual liberties, especially freedom of speech. The “swamp” that Trump has sworn to drain is composed of the entrenched political hacks of the Deep State. They are terrified by the prospect of a political outsider who wants to wipe them out. Their defense is comparing Trump to Hitler, a dishonest form of psychological projection. If our country is threatened by Nazi-like forces, let’s get real. They are coming not from the Right but from the Left.
