Actress-turned-politician Cynthia Nixon is an ideas person. One of her ideas, put forward in March, was to legalize marijuana in New York and then license out pot production to black communities as a form of reparations. “Now that cannabis is exploding as an industry,” she explained to Forbes magazine at the time, “we have to make sure that those communities that have been harmed and devastated by marijuana arrests get the first shot at this industry.”
The proposal wasn’t well received by the black community. But that hasn’t stopped Nixon from continuing to think. And one of her latest thoughts, captured in the video that follows, is that the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are terrorists.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
If you stop to think about it, it makes sense from a liberal perspective. Democrats declared as long ago as December of 2017 that Donald Trump was Hitler incarnate, and recently in the wake of his “catch-and-don’t-release” policy along the southern border, the notion has crystallized.
Since the SS, to whom Hitler delegated the responsibility for carrying out his “Final Solution” were arguably terrorists, then by analogy ICE is also comprised of terrorists.
That is if we accept the premise that the SS working in concentration camps carried out same tasks and responsibilities parallel to those performed by ICE. Let’s run a comparison.
According to its website, ICE’s main responsibilities are enforcing federal laws governing border control, customs, trade and immigration. A subset of ICE, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) is tasked with enforcing “the nation’s immigration laws in a fair and effective manner. It identifies and apprehends removable aliens, detains these individuals when necessary and removes illegal aliens from the United States.” That is precisely what ICE agents along the southern border have been doing, and none of those descriptions sound terribly terroristic.
The SS, in contrast, “was the organization most responsible for the genocidal killing of an estimated 5.5 to 6 million Jews and millions of other victims in the Holocaust. Members of all of its branches committed war crimes and crimes against humanity.”… That does sound similar to the activities carried out by ISIS, al Qaeda, Hamas, and other terrorist organizations. But is sounds nothing like what ICE does.
Maybe candidate Nixon should re-evaluate her position.
