Mayor Libby Schaaf, they’re playing your song. Schaff, the mayor of Oakland, Calif., has herself been in legal hot water since she tipped off illegal aliens in February about a impending raid by immigration officials.

Now Congress may be in the process of making such actions by officials of any sanctuary city punishable by jail time. The Washington Examiner reports:

Steve King, R-Iowa, took a direct shot at … Schaaf Monday with H.R. 5884, better known as the “Mayor Libby Schaaf Act of 2018.”

The bill, officially introduced on Friday, would slap so-called sanctuary city officials with a prison sentence of up to five years for obstructing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials’ “efforts to enforce immigration laws.”

King released a statement on Monday that read:

Sanctuary politicians are placing the lives of citizens and law enforcement officers in jeopardy by giving illegal aliens warnings about impending ICE actions in local jurisdictions. This is obstruction of justice, and Americans do not have to put up with it. Under my bill, government officials who tip off illegal aliens about imminent federal immigration enforcement efforts could face up to 5 years in prison. I want lawless, Sanctuary City politicians to hear this message clearly: if you obstruct ICE, you are going to end up in the cooler.

After Schaff sounded the alert, 800 illegals succeeded in scurrying into the woodwork in advance of ICE’s net, but three of them have surfaced again, committing new crimes, including robbery, drunken driving, and spousal abuse.

This time, when the three are deported, maybe they should take Schaaf with them.
