This would be hilarious if it weren’t so cringe-worthy. Campus Reform took its cameras to the campus of New York University to conduct a man-on-the-street interview with passersby to find out what the they thought (past tense!) of President Donald Trump’s first State Of The Union address — despite the fact it hasn’t taken place yet. In fact, the video was shot a week ago.

The opinions were largely negative. One woman, who appears a little old to be a student — a member of the faculty maybe — called the speech “quite racist at the very least if not up there with most racists.”

As is typical for people who should know better, many of the respondents were not only unwilling to admit they hadn’t seen the speech but reacted to outlandish proposals that Trump had reportedly made.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

At 1:22 in the video (which can be viewed here), the questioner claims that the president “told Democrats [that] the wall got ten feet higher because they didn’t stand up and give him applause at one point.” He then asks the same woman mentioned earlier, “What do you think of that?”

At first she is rendered speechless. Finally she answers, “It’s the behavior of someone who refuses to accept accountability for their failures.”

Q&As like this have been conducted before, almost always with similar result. These experiments reveal not only the depth to which people base their political views on preconceived notions but perhaps the need for a voter literacy examination to be conducted prior to elections.
