Liberalism kills! The insane immigration policies of the sanctuary state of California have turned tragic once again.

Via Breitbart:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Tom Homan confirmed on Thursday that a man arrested in connection with setting a fire in Sonoma County Wine Country is an illegal alien from Mexico who has been twice returned to his “home country.”

Homan also confirmed that ICE has issued detainer requests for Jesus Fabian Gonzalez five times now in the past year alone, including the one issued on October 16 in relation to his most recent arrest on suspicion of arson. All of the arrests were made “by Sonoma County on various felony and misdemeanor charges,” according to Homan.

Fox affiliate KTVU reports that Sonoma County Sheriff Rob Giordano has vehemently challenged the assertion that Gonzalez is responsible for setting the fires, calling an ICE press release “inaccurate” and “inflammatory.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Yet, it was the sheriff’s office that arrested Gonzalez for felony arson. He was apprehended by deputies who found him sleeping at Maxwell Farms Regional Park in the Sonoma Valley after he admitted to lighting fires to keep warm.

Gonzalez is being held in the Sonoma County Jail under $100,000 bail on the arson charge and under $100,000 bail for a misdemeanor drug related warrant from Ventura County, Giordano said.

He was arraigned Wednesday in jail and his next court date has not been set. The Sonoma County Superior Court is closed until Monday because of the fires.

It’s hard to understand the sheriff’s beef, but there seems to be little question that if Giordano had complied with ICE’s detainer requests, Gonzalez’s putative involvement in the fires would be a moot point.

Director Homan said of Giordano’s actions, “Once again, a non-cooperative jurisdiction has left their community vulnerable to dangerous individuals and preventable crimes.”
