School tramples tradition of annual father-daughter dance to be more inclusive

Here is a proposal that no one should find offensive. Instead of scrapping one tradition after another to make events more palatable to liberals, how about instituting a new tradition. Call it Liberal Night, and make it an occasion when anything goes. You want to show up at the event space dressed as a Martian — or wearing nothing at all (it’s called “naturalism”)? Knock yourself out.

This modest proposal is offered for those families with daughters at Crocker/Riverside Elementary School in Sacramento who object to renaming the Father-Daughter Dance so as to be more inclusive.

PTA President Patrick Kuske, who has participated in past Father-Daughter Dances and recalls them with great fondness, told Fox 40, “We got a request from a couple parents to be more inclusive and change the name.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

A couple? That seems like shaky grounds for eliminating a decades-long tradition.

The school’s principal, Daniel McCord, is quoted as saying the name and theme change constitute a “teaching moment for students.” But what does this teach them other than to suffer fools who need to have everything their way.

If the goal is to make diverse families in the community feel more welcome — as the article suggests — then have a Diverse Family Night. Since the Father-Daughter Dance is a fundraiser, imagine how much more the school can rake in by having a different event every night.
