Turning loose illegal immigrants with criminal records is like playing Russian roulette — with someone else’s life. A day after I wrote about an illegal who ran down and killed a woman in Denver, then fleeing the scene, that sanctuary city is back in the news.

This time the suspect is a 19-year-old Mexican who was set free from county jail despite requests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement that he be detained to face deportation. His name is Ever Valles, and not only does he have a criminal history but affiliations to a gang.

None of this, however, deterred the Denver Sheriff’s Department from turning Valles loose in late December after he posted $5,000 bond for the theft charges for which he had been arrested. He wasted no time returning to his life of crime. In the early hours of Feb. 7 he robbed and then murdered 32-year-old Timothy Cruz at a light rail station.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

An illegal immigrant who was freed from county jail in Denver despite ICE’s requests that he stay behind bars to face deportation is accused of murdering a man within weeks of being released.

Ever Valles, 19, is accused of murdering Timothy Cruz, 32, on February 7 after robbing him at a light railway station in the early hours of the morning.

The story, as detailed by the Daily Mail, has a sobering twist. Namely, the Denver authorities complied with federal policy and sent a fax to ICE notifying the agency that Valles was being released. However, the fax was sent just 30 minutes before he was back on the streets.

A statement issued by the Denver Sheriff’s Department reads:

Denver has never and will never condone dangerous or violent individuals being on our streets, immigrants or not, however, detaining anyone without a criminal warrant is a violation of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Try telling that to the family of the man he murdered.
